You can make an arcane key for any arcane lock, but if you attempt to make an arcane key for an arcane lock that was not cast by you or whose caster has not implicitly or explicitly given you permission to make arcane keys for that portal, the casting time is extended to 1 minute and you must succeed on a Spellcraft check (DC = 13 + the caster level of the arcane lock) or your arcane key spell fails. The casting time for this spell is normally 5 rounds. You must be holding the object to converted into a key while casting this spell, and you must be standing within Close range of the arcane lock to be bypassed. One key can function for any number of arcane locked portals, but you have to cast this spell for each arcane lock that you want the key to bypass. The creature that holds the key is capable of passing through the portal as if it was the arcane lock's caster for as long as the key remains on its person. With this spell, you designate a single object capable of residing comfortably in the palm of your hand as a key to an arcane locked portal (for the purposes of this spell, "portal" is used as a generic term for any arcane lockable object, including but not limited to doors, chests, and actual portals to other planes). You then give the stone to your minion, which passes through your arcane locked door and begins its patrol of your tower.
